Are Your Fruits and Vegetables Safe For Your Skin?

Ever wondered what those little numbers mean on the barcode on your fruits and vegetables? Did you know they can affect the health of your skin?

How do I know what’s safe to eat for healthy skin?

Here’s how to decode those labels on your produce, so you’ll know if they’re safe for your skin to eat or not. To recognize genetically modified organisms (fruits and vegetables that are not healthy to consume), check out the little sticker on the produce and find the number code. Here’s what those numbers mean:

•Conventional produce gets a 4 digit code ex. 4103

•Organic produce gets a 5 digit code that starts with a 9 ex. 94103

•Genetically modified produce also gets a 5 digit code but it starts with an 8 ex. 84103

Do these numbers really affect the health of my skin?

The short answer is yes. You’ve all heard that saying, you are what you eat.  Consuming unhealthy food weakens the immune system, dulls the complexion and wrecks havoc on the skin.  When we load up on healthy fruits and vegetables our skin rehydrates, acne diminishes and you’ll notice a healthy glow. So the next time you’re at the grocery store picking out your fruits and vegetables, take a quick second to look at those numbers and have a peace of mind knowing that what you’re consuming is safe and healthy for your skin!
